Purdue Women’s Basketball: B1G Honors

The women’s basketball team reeled in a few awards last night.

NCAA Womens Basketball: Big Ten Conference Tournament-Purdue vs Rutgers Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

While the Purdue Women’s basketball team had its highs and lots of lows, last night a couple of standouts were rewarded appropriately.

Karissa McLaughlin - 1st Team All B1G

Stats: 15 PPG, 3 RPG, 4 APG, 90% FT%, 40% 3 PT%

Ae’Rianna Harris - 2nd Team All B1G & Defensive Player of the Year

Stats: 13 PPG, 9 RPG, 3.2 BPG (2nd in the Nation)

There is no way to hide it. The Purdue Women had a bad year, to me it falls more on a certain someone that decided to stop showing up to Press Conferences after games (Cough, Versyp) than the players.

When you have the Defensive Player of the Year, a second team all B1G player and a first team all B1G player, you should be better than 11th in the conference. The women finished the year on a 3 game losing streak, ending the season 17-14

At one point during the season, the team was 13 and 5, meaning they won 4 of their last 13 games, which is inexcusable.

Good news is, we get both of these great basketball players back next year. Maybe they can get us back into the tournament, even with leadership lacking in the coaching department.

Congratulations, Karissa and Ae’Rianna!
