Thsi year’s Indiana High School Basketball State Tournament features all three of Purdue’s 2019 signees:
- Isaiah Thompson has already cracked the top 50 in the state in scoring with 2,059 career points. He needs 97 (roughly four games at his average) to crack the top 25 all-time, but Zionsville drew a bye to the semifinals of the Class 4A sectional at Kokomo. He’ll need to reach the regional final, where they would probably run in to No. 1 Carmel. Zionsville is rated No. 7 in Class 4A and is 18-5.
- Brandon Newman plays in the 7-team sectional at Portage with Valparaiso and they are probably the favorite. The Vikings are 17-5 on the year.
- Mason Gillis is injured and will not be playing for Class 3A New Castle, who is 11-9 and drew a bye to the semifinals and is playing at home.
I’ll also try to say a word or two for the 2020 and 2021 targets that are playing.
