Purdue Football Transfers: Giovanni Reviere and Jack Smith Enter Transfer Portal

Purdue football has two more departures, both on the defense, as the Giovanni Reviere and Ja’Quirius (Jack) Smith have both entered the transfer portal:

Ja’Quirius Smith was an earlier announcement and has been in the portal since late last week. Smith had played sparingly in his two years on campus. He appeared in two games as a true freshman in 2018 and had a tackle in the Music City Bowl (one of the few players to actually tackle an Auburn player in that game). He officially played this season against Nevada and Penn State, but never locked down a role.

Reviere is the first surprise, at least to me. After redshirting in 2017 Reviere started all 13 games in 2018 and finished with 28 tackles and three sacks. This season he played in 7 games and was banged up a bit, finishing with only 30 tackles, but he brought a wealth of experience and had two years remaining eligibility-wise.

Per out scholarship chart this now has Purdue with one free scholarship going into the 2020 season, and that is with Brohm & Co. actively scouring the JuCo and grad transfer ranks. Purdue also currently has at least five spots open in the “Only 25 new guys on scholarship per year” category. I have that at 20 with the 19 incoming freshmen as well as the greyshirted Chase Triplett.

This also brings the total of Purdue guys in the transfer portal to five: Smith, Reviere, Tyler Hamilton, Alex Criddle, and Jordan Bonner.
