Today, the Big Ten announced all-conference teams for defense and special teams, as well as some select individual honors (offense and remaining honors will be announced tomorrow). Leading that list for Purdue was none other than freshman standout, George Karlaftis, who was named to the 2nd team All-Big Ten Defense by the media.

Interestingly though, Karlaftis was left out by the Big Ten coaches, earning just honorable mention from them (this means he at least got one vote, but not enough to be 1st/2nd/3rd team). While Purdue’s defense was not good this season, especially with the injuries, you would think the Big Ten coaches would show some respect. After all, they did tell their players to hold Karlaftis quite a few times this season for a good reason.

Along with Karlaftis, Ben Holt earned honorable mention from both media and the coaches, while Derrick Barnes and Cory Trice earned honorable mentions from the coaches and media, respectively. J.D. Dellinger was also named honorable mention for All-Big Ten Special Teams by the coaches and media. And finally, Jackson Anthrop was named of the 2019 Big Ten Football Sportsmanship Award Honoree for Purdue.
Outside of the Purdue awards Ryan Day (media) and PJ Fleck (coaches) were each named Coach of the Year, while Chase Young was named Defensive Player of the Year.
