Some relatively monior bad news tonight in advance of the season opener against Green Bay:

Purdue men’s basketball head coach Matt Painter has announced that sophomore Sasha Stefanovic will miss tonight’s season opener with a right foot injury suffered in practice Monday.

The injury is not expected to be long-term and moving forward, Stefanovic will be questionable for Purdue’s contest with Texas on Saturday night in Mackey Arena.

Hopefully they are right about it being a minor injury. Stefanovic was expected to compete for a starting spot this season on the wing as the projected three-point ace. Tonight’s starters have not yet been posted, but Nojel Eastern and Matt Haarms are projected to start. My guess for the other three would be Aaron Wheeler, Jahaad Proctor, and Eric Hunter Jr. That is a pretty experienced lineup to begin the season.

I see this as an abundance of caution type of injury and hopefully Sasha will be back on Saturday night.
