The fax is in, an Jaden Ivey is a Boilermaker.

Ivey is a 6’3” point guard from Mishawaka, IN, but he is spending his final year of high school at LaPorte LaLumiere. He is the #79 recruit nationally according to Rivals, 247 has him as the #73 player nationally, and ESPN has him at #84.

The last two years Ivey played at Mishawaka Marian HS, where they only lost four games in each season. Unfortunately, they lost in the sectional final each time to Culver Academy. Culver was state champion in 2018 and state runner-up in 2019. The year Culver won the title they beat Marian 49-48 in the sectional final.

Ivey is a versatile guard that can both score and distribute. By the time he gets to Purdue he will likely be competing for minutes with Isaiah Thompson and Eric Hunter Jr., as they have similar body styles and games. He is more of a scorer, however, so he might be a bit more like Brandon Newman. Because Thompson will be a sophomore and Hunter will be a junior by then we can bring Ivey along slowly.

While he won’t be eligible to be an Indiana All-Star this season, Ivey should benefit from a year at Lalumiere. Former Purdue players Rapheal Davis, Sandi Marcius, and Jay Simpson spent time there. It is one of the most prestigious prep programs in the country and he will be playing against top notch competition all season.
