Purdue Football Recruiting: Bryce Austin Commits

The commitment train keeps rolling for the 2020 class and today Jeff Brohm got a big ugly for the defensive line.

Austin is a 6’2’, 285 pound defensive tackle from Southfield, Michigan. He is a 3-star pickup form ESPN, 247, and Rivals. He had offers from Michigan State, Penn State, Kentucky, and Pittsburgh. Here are his highlights:

This is another big pickup as Purdue tries to improve its prospects along both lines. Drew wrote more about him back in December:

The two things that stand out on Austin’s film is his ability to get off the ball quickly and close quickly once he gets into the back field. Some guys are quick off the ball, but lack the ability to close the deal once they get into the opponents backfield. Austin is able to do both, and that’s why he’s considered one of the best players in the state of Michigan for 2020. If he can maintain his quickness and explosion while continuing to add mass, he could be a handful by the time he makes it onto a college campus.

As you can see, we are now 4 over for 2020 when it comes to scholarships, and this includes the departure of Nick Sipe. It also includes the potential 6th year of Elijah Sindelar as well as the potential 5th years of Alex Criddle and Lorenzo Neal. Neal can officially redshirt this year and return, while Criddle, remember, redshirted in 2017 by not playing in what was his second year on campus.

As always, there will be attrition. Purdue is still recruiting like there will be room with 4-star dual-threat QB Malik Hornsby visiting this weekend.
