It is now official:
Oak Park, Michigan WR Maliq Carr commits to #Purdue. Had Boilermakers and Georgia in final 2
— mike carmin (@carmin_jc) October 11, 2019
It has been an open secret for weeks that Carr has favored Purdue, but today he made it official on his birthday. This is a very big get as Carr is a 4-star pickup per Rivals and the No. 157 player nationally. Per 247 he is also a 4-star and No. 193 national recruit. The 6'5, 230 pound receiver is a huge outside target and yet another talented player in the offense.
You may have noticed it says "basketball" in the headline, too. That is because Carr will also play for Matt Painter once football season is over. Last season he averaged 16 points and 14 rebounds per game. He ahs been described as a blue collar, little things, dirty work type of guy that will get after loose balls and rebound, so of course he will fit in ith Painter.
Carr will be the first player to do the double since the immortal Patrick Bade. Bade, however, quit basketball to switch to football. The last to do both at the same time was Charles Davis, who excelled at TE in football and played a season of basketball pretty much because we had no other options.
Can Carr pull it off? We shall see.
