Name: Ben Kreul
Ranking: 3* (85, 247 Sports)
Position: Inside Linebacker
Size: 6’4”, 220 Pounds
Location: Waukesha, Wisconsin - Catholic Memorial High School
Other Offers: Iowa State, Wisconsin, Nebraska
Breakdown: Ben is a tall, athletic linebacker. Recruiting websites list Ben as an Inside Linebacker, but at times he plays outside and also plays off of the edge. He has a great knack to find the ball and is pretty good at rushing the passer as well.
I could see Ben being recruited to the LEO position, where it is a hybrid Rush End/Outside Linebacker. He has the frame to put on a little bit of more weight to be an effective edge rusher at Purdue.
I like his overall athleticism and knack of finding the ball. But, there are a few things I think could be refined.
First thing, it seems like he plays high when the ball is snapped, he immediately raises his should pad level, as well as hops around, but he does avoid false steps to go backwards, he is always playing fast.
His hips seem a little stiff at times, but that is easily fixed.
I like more things than what I dislike. He plays fast, 100% all of the time it appears. He also reads his keys great, you can tell this just by watching a couple minutes of his film. I also love how athletic he is.
For Purdue to take a kid this early, he has to be an “A” option for them. I think he has the ability to come in and play early on, especially with the departure of Markus Bailey after the season. He reminds me of Markus a bit coming out of high school and how he could cover the entire field.
Welcome to the family, Ben. Boiler Up!
