College Basketball Rankings January 28: Purdue Returns to Top 25

New, comments

Boy, that was a scary couple of weeks.

NCAA Basketball: Michigan State at Purdue Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

After being ranked for pretty much every week for 4 straight years the past eight weeks have been odd. Purdue has received votes int he AP Poll each of the last 8 weeks, but the slow start to the season saw Purdue on the outside of the top 25 until this week. With a good road win over Ohio State and a home win over No. 6 Michigan State we have returned to the top 25 for the first time since November 26:

  1. Tennessee (48) 1,575
  2. Duke (12) 1,527
  3. Virginia (4) 1,473
  4. Gonzaga 1,382
  5. Michigan 1,381
  6. Michigan State 1,235
  7. Kentucky 1,226
  8. Nevada 1,158
  9. North Carolina 1,065
  10. Marquette 973
  11. Kansas 972
  12. Virginia Tech 858
  13. Houston 795
  14. Villanova 734
  15. Louisville 658
  16. Texas Tech 561
  17. Purdue 532
  18. Buffalo 468
  19. LSU 435
  20. Iowa State 327
  21. Maryland 280
  22. Mississippi State 236
  23. North Carolina State 203
  24. Wisconsin 179
  25. Florida State 141

The win over Michigan State gives Purdue three wins over current top 25 teams, while Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota also received votes this week. It won’t be easy finishing the season strong, but Purdue is definitely trending up.
