Purdue’s last win over a top 25 team came back in 2011, when the Boilers beat No. 23 Illinois in Ross-Ade Stadium. It was the second of what woulkd be six straight losses for the Illini, and they have not been back in the top 25 since.
This week Purdue is facing a Boston College team that has not been ranked since 2008, but cracked the AP Top 25 at No. 23. They are also in the coaches poll at No. 25. With running back AJ Dillon they are probably the best team we have faced to date and are no easier of an opponent than Missouri.
For Purdue the Boilers are trying to avoid their first 0-4 start since 1982, when we finished 3-8. that year Purdue dropped its first five games to Stanford, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Illinois. It is a difficult test, to be sure, as Purdue just needs something, anything to go its way.
