Today’s player is the type of defensive back Jeff Brohm loves: tall, lean, and strong.
Cory Trice - Fr.
Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County HS)
6’3”, 195 pounds
Defensive Back
2018 Projection: Likely Redshirt
Coach Brohm has been recruiting Christian County High School in Hopkinsville, Kentucky hard since he got to Purdue. In addtion to Trice he has gotten sophomore receiver Keyron Catlett and redshirt freshman cornerback Kenneth Major from there. All three were high school teammates together and htey went 9-3 in 2016 and 8-4 in 2015.
Trice was part of an even better team last season. Christian County went 11-1 before losing to South Warren in the second round of the Kentucky state playoffs. He played both ways, catching two passes for 8 yards and intercepting two passes. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown and a punt for a touchdown. That tells me that if he avoids a redshirt, he could be quite useful as a returner. He was limited to a handful of games though due to an ankle injury.
He was still good enough to be named the football Athlete of the Year according to the Kentucky New Era.
