25 Days to Purdue Football: Tario Fuller

The shifty running back surprised many early last year.

NCAA Football: Purdue at Missouri Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

A year ago we were expecting D.J Knox or Markell Jones to be the starting running back in the season opener. Instead it was today’s player.

Tario Fuller - Jr.

Running Back

2018 Projection: Contributor at running back

After a modest debut of 30 yards on 10 carries and 51 yards on 5 receptions in 2016 Fuller had a great debut last year. He rushed for 29 yards on 8 carries in the Louisville game. he then had a pair of great games. He rushed for 142 yards and a score on 16 carries agaisnt Ohio, then 90 yards and a score on 19 carries agaisnt Missouri.

Unfortunately, an ankle injury sidelined him the rest of the year. He had multiple offseason surgeries, but he is expected to be back and be a major contributor this year. With Knox and Jones, he gives Purdue an experienced and talented trio of backs that can do a lot of work. He only has 291 yards and 2 scores ont he ground, but he showed enough early last year to have Purdue fans excited.
