After a third-round loss last season in the Women’s NIT to in-state rivals Indiana, Coach Versyp and her Lady Boilermakers look to turn things around for the 2018-19 season and get back to the real dance. They finished 20-14 last season and 7th in the Big Ten.
As part of a rebuilt effort, Coach Versyp has hit the transfer market to bolster a roster that’s been affected by transfers of her own. Most exciting is 5’11” Lyndsey Whilby, a sophomore guard transfer from Texas Tech. She led the Red Raiders in three-pointers last season. She will be seeking a waiver to become immediately eligible after she left a drama-filled program.
If she isn’t deemed immediately eligible, she will still be a nice bolster going forward for a program with some young talent. Karissa McLaughlin will go into her sophomore season after earning all Big-Ten Freshman honors last year, and looking to build on the third-most prolific three-point season in school history.
Youth will be the narrative all season. Purdue will go into the season with only two seniors on the roster, 6’6” Nora Kiesler and guard Abby Abel.
