College Football Coaches Poll: Purdue Receives No Votes

Purdue’s streak of not being ranked goes back to 2007.

The preseason coaches poll, now apparently sponsored by Amway, is out and Purdue is not in it. This is not much of a surprise, as the Boilers were only 7-6 last season and haven’t been ranked since starting 5-0 in 2007. Purdue currently has the 15th longest unranked streak in the AP Poll at 173 weeks, with Syracuse (262 weeks) and Inidana (394 weeks) as the only Power 5 teams with longer streaks.

Purdue received 5 votes in the September 23, 2012 poll, but that is the last time we even received votes. While Purdue may may not get ranked this year, its “Receiving Votes” streak could end soon. A strong start, or even a week 1 win might be enough. Here is the season opening poll:

  1. Alabama (61) 1,621
  2. Clemson (3) 1,547
  3. Ohio State (1) 1,458
  4. Georgia 1,452
  5. Oklahoma 1,288
  6. Washington 1,245
  7. Wisconsin 1,243
  8. Miami (FL) 1,091
  9. Penn State 1,050
  10. Auburn 1,004
  11. Notre Dame 892
  12. Michigan State 870
  13. Stanford 768
  14. Michigan 752
  15. Southern Cal 691
  16. TCU 530
  17. Virginia Tech 524
  18. Mississippi State 407
  19. Florida State 328
  20. West Virginia 310
  21. Texas 265
  22. Boise State 261
  23. Central Florida 259
  24. LSU 254
  25. Oklahoma State 168

Others Receiving Votes: South Carolina 138, Florida 135, Oregon 105, Utah 81, Northwestern 67, Texas A&M 67, Kansas State 35, Florida Atlantic 27, Boston College 23, Memphis 23, North Carolina State 22, Arkansas State 19, Troy 19, Appalachian State 16, San Diego State 15, Iowa 8, Iowa State 8, Kentucky 8, Washington State 7, South Florida 6, Duke 5, Fresno State 4, Louisville 3, Arizona 2, Houston 2, Army 1, Northern Illinois 1

Purdue plays three of the top 12 preseason teams in No. 3 Ohio State, No. 7 Wisconsin, and at No. 12 Michigan State. We also have home games against Northwestern, Boston College, and Iowa as teams receiving votes. A week 1 win likely means we get something in week 2.
