Purdue Football Recruiting: TJ Sheffield Commits

On September 18, 2021 Purdue will travel to Notre Dame to re-start the Shelelagh Trophy rivalry. On that day I hope Purdue’s latest commitment has a huge game. TJ Sheffield, a 5’10” 165 pound receiver from Independence High School in Thompson’s Station, Tennessee originally committed to Notre Dame, then they revoked their offer a few weeks ago. Tonight he committed to Purdue instead.

Sheffield is a high 3-star prospect according to Rivals, a 3-star according to 247, and a 4-star (and 251st overall) according to ESPN. Here are his highlights:

Imagine Elijah Sindelar having him as a shifty target to throw to next year. He joins an arsenal of weapons that will make the Brohmfense positively lethal going forward. There is a chance he can be upgraded to a 4-star prospect on both Rivals and 247 as well, improving Purdue’s already impressive class.

The scholarship grid is already updated and we have two spots left in this class, but in each season under Brohm there has been attrition of upperclassmen that either haven’t played much or won’t play much, so there could be another 4-5 spots to go with the 21 already locked in.

Regardless, this is shaping up as Purdue’s best recruiting class pretty much ever. Itis currently 20th nationally, matching the heights of the 2004 class according to Rivals which also had four 4-stars. Two of those (Bruce Gordon and Jeremy Coley) never played a snap for Purdue.
