39 Days to Purdue Football: Zach Randall

Let’s meet another walk-on.

Another day, another walk-on. This is a relatively new walk-on that was pretty much unknown last year.

Zach Randall - Fr. (RS)

Fishers, IN (Hamilton SE HS)

6’, 220 pounds

Linebacker

2018 Projection: Reserve at Linebacker

Randall is a bit undersized for the Big Ten, but Purdue might need him to play regardless. He is one of just 6 linebackers that returns in some way, shape, or form from last year, and only one linebacker is coming in the fall. Among those linebackers, Markus Bailey is excellent, we have three scholarship sophomores, and Randall joins townie Jonah Williams as redshirt freshman walk-ons.

It is a bit of a surprise that Randall ended up at Purdue to play football. He was also a lacrosse player for Hamilton Southeastern, and he had originally committed to play lacrosse collegiately at Mount St. Mary’s. He was quite the player, too:

Zach Randall, Defense: A captain for the lacrosse squad since his sophomore year (also a football player, where he was an offensive lineman as a junior and then moved to linebacker this past season); 2nd Team All-State 2016, 1st Team All-Conference 2016.

Well, he should know how to move in space as a lacrosse defender. If we need him, he’ll be there.
