84 Days to Purdue Football: Jess Trussell

Blocking tight ends get all the love.

NCAA Football: Foster Farms Bowl-Arizona vs Purdue Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports

Blocking tight ends receive little glory. They do the hard nosed dirty work in short yardage situations, but rarely get to be the one to catch the touchdown pass. Well, today they are going to get the love.

Tight End

2018 Projection: Contributor at Tight End

Trussell came to Purdue before the 2015 season as a 3-star prospect from Texas. The big tight end then redshirted, and has since played in just 10 games over the last two seasons. He has yet to catch a pass, but he has contributed mostly as a blocker on the field goal team and in short yardage situations.

As a senior in high school he was the goal line target. He caught 23 passes for 493 yards and 7 touchdowns. With Brycen Hopkins and Cole Herdman ahead of him there are not many passes to catch, but he could always split wide at the goal line for a short score.
