Purdue Football Recruiting: Sulaiman Kpaka Commits

The Boilers gain more strength on the defensive line.

The commitment train keeps on rolling this week. Today the Boilers gained their 18th commitment for the 2019 class in Sulaiman Kpaka, a 6’3”, 230 pound defensive lineman from Grand Prairie, Texas. He is a 3-star pickup according to both Rivals and 247. Here are his highlights:

Purdue continues to go heavy on the defensive line with this class. Kpaka is the third defensive end to commit, and Khali Saunders, who committed earlier this week, could easily end up on the line before all is said and done. Kpaka might even be able to bulk up and shift inside to tackle, where Purdue does not have a commitment yet this cycle.

With 18 commitments Purdue is 15th nationally according to Rivals on valume alone. The highest rated Rivals class we have had was 20th way back in 2004. We’re sitting at three 4-star recruits (and Hazzell had just two in his entire four years) and 10 3-star recruits in the class. The class might hold up, too, as Texas A&M also has 18 commits in the top 20, while Clemson and Mississippi each have 17. By my tracking we still have room for five more, too.
