The 2018 NBA Draft has come and gone, and while Vincent Edwards is off to the Houston Rockets, Dakota Mathias and Isaac Haas went undrafted. The good news is that they still have a chance to make an impression thanks to free agency and the NBA Summer League. Last season Caleb Swanigan tore up the summer league, and he is likely playing in it again this summer with Purdue’s incoming seniors.
We do know that at least Dakota Mathias will be in the league. He was picked up by the Cleveland Cavaliers for their summer league team:
Jake Fischer of Sports Illustrated reported the Cavaliers are bringing the former Boilermaker to join their summer-league squad. Mathias, a 6-foot-4 guard, shot a tremendous 46.4 percent from beyond the 3-point line last season for Purdue and is also regarded as a rugged defender. He was projected by many draft experts to be selected in the second round, but that did not happen.
Cleveland has its first summer league game against the Washington Wizards in Las Vegas on July 6th. They will also play the Bulls and Pacers out there.
As for Haas, we don’t know yet where he will end up. We’ll keep an eye out to see if he ends up on a summer league roster.
