77 Days to Purdue Football: D.J. Washington

The redshirt freshman is looking for a spot on the two-deep

Offensive line depth is the key to the success of any football team. In 2018 Purdue has multiple starters returning and a few others with experience at multiple positions. Eric Swingler, Matt McCann, Grant Hermanns, Shane Evans, and Kirk Barron bring starting experience across the entire front line, while guys like Michael Mendez and Bearooz Yacoobi have previous experience. Today’s player is part of the next group trying to gain experience.

2018 Projection: Reserve on the offensive line

The development of Washington will be interesting to watch. He is the first of a different type of lineman recruited by Brohm to be more athletic. He is also from Brohm’s recruiting hotbed of Louisville. He was a strong player for Louisville Ballard, a rival of powerhouse Louisville Trinity. He was also recruited by Brohm at Western Kentucky.

Washington is in a good position where he can continue to develop without being asked to be a starter immediately. He probably projects as a guard, which will be a position of need in 2019.
