It seems like yesterday that Markell Jones was coming to Purdue after being named Indiana’s Mr. Football.
Markell has had quite the career for us. After being the bell cow his freshman year, then to splitting carries as he nursed an injury his sophomore year, to being in rotation his senior, before injuries lead him to being the man again.
What he has shown, is that when asked, he can carry the rock 30 times, he can block and he can catch. The coaching staff we have now prefer a RBBC look, I believe, as even early in the season we used RIchie, Markell, Tario and DJ.
I am unsure who will be the starter next season, but with Travis taking Tario, I felt the need to take Markell to even out the backfield. Markell did lead the team in rushing yards last season, carrying the ball 113 times for 566 yads, but only scoring once. I will not forget his performance against IU, he put the team on his back, carrying the ball 31 times for 217 yards, ripping the IU defense apart.
