Purdue Basketball Recruiting: What Would Francis Okoro Mean for 2018?

Okoro would be the icing on the cake.

Similar to how Deadpool was looking for Francis, we are in the middle of getting our Francis.

All joking aside, a late reclassification of Francis Okoro and a quick commitment to our Boilermakers would make this one of Coach Painter’s best recruiting classes to date. The Combo Guard, Eric Hunter, is ranked at 118th best player in the nation, big man, Tre Williams from Detroit, comes in at 125, with his insane handles for a center and future all B1G defensive team center, Emmanuel Dowouna comes in as the 30th best center.

You may be wondering, why did I choose Purdue All-American, power forward, Caleb Swaningan? The thought was simple. He was a power forward, something Okoro has interest in. Rumor is, Illinois and Oregon are saying we will make him play back to the basket similar to Isaac Haas.

I know CMP is responding with saying, JaJuan Johnson played away from the basket, so did Robbie Hummel a power forward, Caleb Swanigan did as well - all NBA Draft Picks, 2 as first round picks.

All over Twitter, Okoro has stated he wants to go to a great Computer Science school, look no further than Purdue - a top 25 computer science program. Francis boasts a 3.7 GPA and a freaking 32 on an ACT he recently took.

Currently, Okoro ranks as the 42nd best player in the 2019 class, a 4* “center”. I don’t think Center defines him though.

At 6’9”, 225 Pounds, he is the same size of Vincent Edwards this past season - but with much more athleticism.

So what would the addition of Okoro mean to this team?

  1. 40 Minutes of rim protection. Haarms, Okoro and Dowouna. My God, will anyone dunk on that?
  2. An athletic slashing forward. This is something we lack in this class. Hunter, a nice combo guard, Williams a back to the basket PF/C and Dow who is all defense currrently.
  3. More depth at the 3/4. These days, the 3 and 4 are pretty interchangeable. But, adding more pieces there wouldn’t hurt. Wheeler, Boudreux, Okoro, Eifert and Cline are all nice pieces we can use at the three.
  4. More Rebounding. Someone has to replace Vince’s numbers.
  5. Another player with a high ceiling and NBA potential. Coach Painter has shown he can get forwards to the league. He can be next.
  6. A running mate with Carsen Edwards for all of the lobs.

Really, this is a match made in heaven, Francis. Come play in front of the best fans in College Basketball. Come play for one of the best coaches in the nation. Come play with the BEST SHOOTING GUARD IN THE DAMN NATION.

Francis, the ball is in your hands. I know what the best choice is.

(Can you guys imagine Carsen, Francis, Wheeler on the court at the same time, so many dunks)
