Edwards, who won the Jerry West Award as the nation’s top shooting guard, is coming back, and 2018-19 Purdue basketball just got a huge boost. Just how big? Well, he is likely going to be the preseason Big Ten Player of the Year and on the short list for National Player of the Year. With the departure of four seniors he is probably going to play with the ball in his hands a lot more, but since he projects as a point guard at the next level that can be a good thing. He is probably going to be among the nation’s leading scorers and a high volume offensive player, at least early, as Purdue breaks in players in new roles and other newcomers.
It also means Purdue is likely a preseason top 25 team even with the loss of four long-time starters. He is that good. Can he carry Purdue past the sweet 16 barrier? Well, we at least have another shot at it now.
