Purdue now knows its opponent on Saturday in the 2018 Big Ten Tournament. After being in a bracket with Ohio State, Michigan, and Iowa things switch for the semifinals. Purdue and Minnesota, the two teams off today at 2-0, will play the remaining one-loss teams from the respective other sides of the bracket. That means Purdue will play Illinois after the Illini defeated Indiana 5-4 in walk-off fashion. Minnesota will get Ohio State, who eliminated Michigan today 5-3.
Both Purdue and Minnesota only need one victory to move to Sunday’s winner-take-all single championship game. Illinois and Ohio State, in addition to having to play today, must win twice on Saturday in order to advance.
So here is tomorrow’s schedule, and all games will be carried on BTN:
Minnesota vs. Ohio State - 10am ET
Purdue vs. Illinois - 2pm ET
Minnesota vs. Ohio State - 6pm ET (only if Ohio State wins the first game)
Purdue vs. Illinois - 10pm ET (only if Illinois wins the first game) (Also, if this game is needed and the second Minnesota-Ohio State game is not needed it will be played at 6pm ET).
This has been a fun tournament. Of the 10 games so far, five have finished in walk-off fashion including yesterday’s win over Michigan. Purdue will likely go with Ryan Beard in game one and Trent Johnson in game two on Saturday.
