I am still mad Kyle took Markus Bailey, but I don’t blame him. When you have the top pick you go with the best player on the team, and Bailey is going to be excellent this coming season. There are still some good linebackers, however, and I am taking one of them today to continue shoring up my defense.
Cornel Jones - LB
Assuming Bailey plays in the middle, Jones is going to be one of the guys looking for time on the outside this coming season. Last season as a true freshman he burned the redshirt early. He played in eight games, mostly on special teams, and got five tackles.
I like the strategy of playing future linebackers early on special teams. It gives them experience at making open field tackles and prepares them for a starting role. It was a smart thing to do, and that is why I got Jones and Derrick Barnes.
