I have my quarterback. I have three of my offensive linemen, probably in a steal since they are a finite resource. It is time to look at the other side of the ball, and my sixth pick is a relative newcomer that has yet to play a down.
Dedrick Mackey - CB
Purdue had two good senior cornerbacks last season, so that meant not a lot of playing time for others. We tried out a few reserves that didn’t work out, but the best two for this season might be a pair of redshirt freshmen. Mackey is one of them.
Mackey comes from Miami, where he was a Miami-Dade all-star in one of the most football rich areas of the country. he was a solid prospect out of Booker T. Washington and impressed the coaches last season while redshirting. I would not be surprised to see him starting on day 1. He’s my top corner, at least.
