There is no question that Purdue football exceeded all expectations in 2017. Before the season began Purdue had only won 5 games against FBS teams in four years and even three wins against a tough slate was considered wildly optimistic. Instead, Jeff Brohm played musical quarterbacks with David Blough and Elijah Sindelar, Nick Holt built an aggressive defense behind its linebackers, and Purdue not only won seven games (including a bowl), it was competitive in every game.
So what about an encore? Well, the oddsmakers have Purdue with an over/under of 5 wins for 2018:

This year’s schedule is tough and Purdue did lose a lot defensively, but with a fully armed and operational Brohmfense the offense could be much better. The schedule has no favors as Purdue is one of the few schools playing two Power Conference teams in the non-conference portion, but Boston College and Missouri do have to come to West Lafayette.
Personally, I think we’re winning 7 games, but I am back on the wildly optimistic bandwagon.
