Isaac Haas Named Top 5 for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award

Purdue has a second finalist for a national award.

For the second time this week a Purdue player has been named as a top 5 finalist for a national position award. On Tuesday Carsen Edwards was named as a finalist for the Jerry West Award, given to the nation’s top shooting guard. Today Isaac Haas was named as a top 5 finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award given to the nation’s best center.

Haas is joined on the list by Jock Landale (Saint Mary’s), Angel Delgado (Seton Hall), Thomas Welsh (UCLA) and Brandon McCoy (UNLV). Fans are encouraged to visit HoopHallAwards.com to cast their votes March 9-23. Previous winners include Przemek Karnowski (Gonzaga), Jakob Poeltl (Utah) and Frank Kaminsky (Wisconsin).

Poeltl won the award that our own A.J. Hammons was a finalist for just two seasons ago. I would have to say that Delgado might be the favorite because he is the better rebounder. Haas has a shot though.

Purdue is one of five schools nationally to have a finalist in each of the last three years (Purdue, Duke, Villanova, Kansas, North Carolina). The Boilermakers are one of four teams to have two finalists this year (Purdue, Duke, North Carolina, Villanova).
