BREAKING: Isaac Haas Out For Rest of NCAA Tournament

Purdue loses it’s centerpiece

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-First Round: Purdue Boilermakers vs. Cal State Fullerton Titans Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Just as Purdue routed Cal State Fullerton, bad news came an hour later.

Isaac Haas, the centerpiece to our offense and senior big man has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

This is terrible news for a team that is trying to breakthrough to avoid the stereotype that has been unfairly placed on Purdue, that we cannot make it past the first weekend.

While looking at this right away, this hurts - it hurts badly. We will have to replace 14 points per game and just over 5 rebounds per game as well. The part that hurts the most though, is the ability for Haas to draw fouls on opponents - which often leads to our Boilers getting in the bonus.

So, how do we fill this giant hole?

First, we start Matt Haarms, the redshirt freshman will be fine in a starting role, we will be better defensively right away, but still lose a step offensively. I am confident in saying that Matt Haarms will do okay.

As for depth, we will see more of rarely used redshirt junior Jacquil Taylor. When he comes in during mop up minutes he always does something that makes me think, damn he should be in the rotation.

This is an unlucky spill for our Boilermakers, but we are also in a unique spot where we have another 7 footer and a 3rd center on the roster that has been on campus for 4 seasons already.

We want to wish Isaac a speedy recovery and this team the best of luck as we await to see who we play in round 2. Boiler Up.
