I would venture to say that most Boilermakers have no idea who these guys are.

NCAA Basketball: Big Ten Conference Tournament-Purdue vs Michigan Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The game has been set. Purdue plays Cal-State Fullerton at 12:40 PM on Friday afternoon.

But, who are the Cal-State Fullerton Titans? What are some facts about this university out west?

Cal-State Fullerton Titans:

Student Population: Cal State Fullerton boasts just over 40,000 students at their institution. Being similar in size to Purdue University.

Location: Fullerton, California

Mascot: Tuffy the Titan - He is an elephant (it makes no sense)

Conference Affiliation: Cal-State is affiliated with the Big West Conference.

Baseball Success: Cal-State is a baseball powerhouse year in and year out. They have won 4 national championships (banners!) and have a ton of players in the MLB. Cal State is considered one of the most successful baseball programs in NCAA history.

National Championships: The school has 13 total national championships across 8 sports. They have championships in Women’s Basketball, Men’s Gymnastics, Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Fencing, Men’s Bowling, Women Gymnastics, Baseball and Softball.

They also boast 15 national championships in Division 1 Dance Jazz: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 - They are a dance powerhouse as well.

Recent Basketball Success: This year, they finished the season with a 20-11 record, winning the Big West Tournament. They get to the line at ease, leading the nation in free throw attempts per game. They do not shoot the three ball very well though.

Since their Head Coach Dedrique Taylor got there in 2013, they have been up and down. Since 2013, he has had a combined record of 67-88, with 3 losing seasons and 2 winning seasons.

Cal State is a good first challenge for us. Make sure to tune in on Friday at 12:40 on TruTV! Boiler Up.
