And then there were 16.
Tonight 16 regional champions were crowned and after an exhausting day of basketball 16 teams are a single step away from the state finals in Indianapolis. 2018 Purdue signee Eric Hunter saw his high school career end as Indianapolis Tindley was the last defending state champion to fall tonight.
Here are the regional final scores.
Class 4A
Michigan City
South Bend Riley 75, Elkhart Memorial 68
Indiana signee Damezi Anderson has Riley undefeated and a step away from the state finals. It is entirely possible that the Class 4A final could be a pair of unbeaten teams.
Logansport
Carmel 54, Fort Wayne North 42
Keion Brooks had 20 points, but Carmel’s defense kept the Legends in check as Greyhounds move on.
Southport
Warren Central 83, Terre Haute South 48
Warren Central is also undefeated as they won in a walk.
Seymour
New Albany 69, Center Grove 56
Trayce Jackson-Davis had an excellent night for Center Grove 24 points, finishing with 50 over his team’s two games. Unfortunately he ran into a determined Romeo Langford. Kangford had 39 and is at 2,967 points for his career. I made a mistake earlier, as the record is 3,134 for Damon Bailey, so it seems unlikely he will get there. He can become just the 4th player with 3,000 career points, however.
Class 3A
LaPorte
Culver Academy 50, West Lafayette 43
Trey Galloway moves on to the semi-state for Culver and eliminates football commit George Karlaftis.
Marion
New Castle 77, Marion 70
Galloway will face off against Mason Gillis and New Castle next week, hopefully as a preview of future teammates.
Greencastle
Danville 57, Lebanon 45
Lebanon had a magical run, winning 4 tournament games after winning only 8 regular season games.
Southridge
Evansville Bosse 81, Silver Creek 55
Mekhi Lairy has 29 points to move to 2,182, good for 22nd all-time int he state. Jack Owens got a good one at Miami (OH)
Class 2A
North Judson
Westview 59, Andrean 55
Down goes Dan Dakich High.
Lapel
Oak Hill 60, Tipton 45
Oak Hill wins its first regional in 17 years.
Greenfield
Indianapolis Scecina 58, Cloverdale 52
Jalen Moore finishes with an astounding 1,031 points in this season alone for Cloverdale. only Steve Alford in 1983 (1,078) had more in a sinlge season. He finished with 2,441 career points, 11th in state history.
Paoli
Forest Park 70, Austin 49
Forest Park is a step away from returning to Indy after winning consecutive titles in 2005 and 2006.
Class A
Culver
Fort Wayne Blackhawk 100, Gary 21st Century 62
Blackhawk is the only team to hit 100 points in a game today.
Southwood 92, Seton Catholic 57
Southwood wins only it second regional.
Martinsville
Morristown 82, Indianapolis Tindley 64
Hunter had 19 points at halftime as Tindley led 41-37, but Morristown completely dominated the second half. He finsihed with 25 tonight to close out at 2,581 points in his career, 7th all-time and passing Trevon Bluiett tonight ont hat list.
Loogootee
Barr-Reeve 48, Christian Academy 47
No surprise here, as Barr-Reeve continues to have a ton of success in Class A.
