Isaac Haas Named Finalist for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award

A third member of Purdue’s starting five is up for a national award.

NCAA Basketball: Ohio State at Purdue Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

He may be a throwback to a former era of basketball, but having a guy like Isaac Haas and is 7’2” near 300 pound frame near the basket is a nice asset. Yeah, he is not a threat to shoot the three and he might even be a defensive liability at times, but if we need two points and can get him the ball, he is going to go and get it. As a result, he has been named as a finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award given to the nation’s best center. He joins Carsen Edwards and Vince Edwards as Boilers up for their respective positional awards.

Like those other awards, a final 5 will be announced some time in March before the awards themselves are announced around the Final Four.

Here are your 10 finalists:

Jaren Jackson Jr. - Michigan State

Isaac Haas - Purdue

Jock Landale - St. Mary’s

Angel Delgado - Seton Hall

Vladimir Brodziansky - TCU

Mohamed Bamba - Texas

Tyler Davis - Texas A&M

Thomas Welsh - UCLA

Brandon McCoy - UNLV

Ethan Happ - Wisconsin
