Purdue Football: Predicted Offensive 2-Deep for Spring Ball

Uh, we are thin in a lot of spots.

NCAA Football: Purdue at Rutgers Dennis Schneidler-USA TODAY Sports

So, Spring Football started yesterday. So it is time for my no knowledge, basic guessing predicted 2-deep for spring ball.

Spoiler, I have no idea how this will play out. This is my best guess based on how the season ended for these guys, off-season rumors I have heard - probably the same ones you have heard and that is basically it, oh and who is hurt, because that matters.

I couldn’t be more excited for this upcoming season after last season’s turnaround, and it all starts now. This is what I got.

Quarterback:

  1. Elijah Sindelar - Injured
  2. David Blough
  3. Nick Sipe
  4. Jack Plummer

We are in really good shape at Quarterback. We have some injuries, but David Blough is ahead of schedule and is expected to get QB1 reps this spring. I still think if healthy, Sindelar is the the number one this srping.

Running Back:

  1. Markell Jones
  2. Tario Fuller - Injured
  3. D.J. Knox
  4. Richie Worship - Injured
  5. Alexander Horvath

With two injuries, we are down to three healthy backs. On being walk on Alexander Horvath. Tario and Richie are still recovering from their injuries this past season. WE are still in good hands with Markell and Knox, but will need a back or two for the 2019 class.

Wide Receiver:

  1. Jared Sparks - Injured
  2. Jarrett Burgess
  3. Amad Anderson

Jared Sparks has permanently been moved to outside receiver, he is hurt though. Burgess, a senior and walk on played meaningful snaps last year. Amad Anderson a mid year enrollee is really talented.

Wide Receiver

  1. Isaac Zico
  2. D.J. Edwards
  3. Keyron Catlett

Zico, a senior will get first crack. But RS FR Edwards and Catlett are not far behind. Zico had a case of the drops last year, but that can be fixed.

Slot Receiver:

  1. Jackson Anthrop
  2. Terry Wright
  3. Tyler Hamilton

Jackson Anthrop is here at the slot for now. But, incoming freshman Rondale Moore will push once he gets here this summer. Jackson could play some outside receiver as well. Jackson was easily our most reliable receiver this past season.

Tight End:

  1. Cole Herdman
  2. Brycen Hopkins
  3. Darius Pittman

We are really good at this spot. Enough said.

Left Tackle:

  1. Grant Hermanns
  2. Ethan Smart

Hermanns will be our left tackle, but I am unsure if he is still hurt or not. Ethan Smart a former JuCo transfer could get spring reps if so.

Left Guard:

  1. Shane Evans
  2. Peyton Truitt
  3. Mike Mendez

There is plenty of depth and experience here. Evans, a former NIU transfer was great at LG last season.

Center:

  1. Kirk Barron
  2. Viktor Beach

Barron, going on three years of starting has been a mainstay on the offensive line. He is as good as any center in the B1G.

Right Guard:

  1. Matt McCann
  2. Bearooz Yacoobi
  3. Mike Mendez

Matt McCann a former tackle for us, was a road grading guard last year. He will eb at the same spot this season. He is all-B1G potential too.

Right Tackle

  1. Eric Swingler
  2. Mike Mendez

Swingler, a former walk on got a ton of snaps last year. He will compete for the RT spot with the departure of Dave Steinmetz. I would be fine with him starting there this year.
