Purdue Football: Chris Barclay Headed to Wake Forest Hall of Fame

Our running back coach was really, really good back in his day.

Coach Barclay is being honored at Wake Forest for his playing days for the Demon Deacons.

At Wake Forest, Barclay was dominant from day 1.

His freshman year he had 144 carries for 703 yards and 9 touchdowns. But he continued to get better as his career went on. His sophomore year he had 235 carries for 1192 yards, junior year 243 carries for 1010 yards his senior campaign he had 218 carries for 1127 yards. For his career he had over 4,000 yards, which makes him the all time leader in Wake Forest history - I believe even ACC history.

Part of his career came with a very good day against Purdue in 2002. He rushed for 70 yards and 3 touchdowns on 19 carries as Wake Forest came to Purdue and beat the Boilers 24-21. His touchdown with 3:43 left in the third quarter put Wake Forest ahead 24-21 and Purdue missed three fourth quarter field goals in the loss. a year later in Purdue’s return game at Wake Forest he was limited to 26 yards on 19 carries as Purdue won 16-10. He was stuffed for a 3-yard loss by Stu Schweigert on 4th and 1 from the Purdue 16 with 1:05 left to clinch the win for Purdue.

Barclay is loved by all of the players at Purdue. Coach has them over for dinner to bond religiously. He is a great man and father, as I follow him on Twitter, which I know you cannot tell a lot from that - but everything I have seen, he is one of the true good guys in college football.

We truly are blessed to have this guy on our staff.
