Exciting news in West Lafayette was announced on Twitter just a few hours ago. The #6 ranked Boilermakers are coming off of two difficult losses against Ohio State and Michigan State, but they got something to smile about today when Kobe Bryant allowed the Purdue basketball team to wear his new Kobe Bryant 1 ProTro shoes by Nike.
Purdue is, of course, a Nike shoe and this is a sign that the nation at large is - dare I say it - seeing Purdue basketball as something cool.
Here’s a look at the tweets that broke the news, including a video put together for the release of the shoe, a shout-out by Biggie, and a picture of the shoe. (They’re fire.)
Thanks @kobebryant for the new kicks. It is greatly appreciated.

#Purdue will be the first collegiate team to wear the new Kobe 1 Protro. #BoilerUp pic.twitter.com/Fiu2To5onz
We needed special permission from Kobe to wear them. When asked, his response was more or less, “#Purdue is balling this year. Of course they can be the first to wear them.”#BoilerUp

While Purdue looks to get back on track, it’s not bad to get shout out from a future Hall of Famer. Not to mention new kicks.
Purdue’s next game will be Thursday on the road against Wisconsin. Your first chance to see them in Mackey will be on Sunday against Penn State.
