After losing a pair of games last week I knew we were probably going to fall out of the top 25, but since they were on the road we had a chance to stay in. In fact, had we held on at Florida State we almost certainly would have stayed in. As it turns out, Purdue is out of the AP top 25 for only the second time in the last 62 polls, but just barely. Furman is ranked for the first time in school history at No. 25 with 101 votes. Purdue is just behind them at No. 26 with 100.

Purdue can reclaim its place by winning at home against a ranked team Wednesday in Maryland. There are obviously plenty of chances to build a profile too with the number of ranked teams in the Big Ten. If we win the next three against Maryland, Texas (who received 44 votes) and Notre Dame we’ll be fine. The Florida State loss hurts because we let a quality win get away, but we can get two more (though not as good as at FSU) this week.
