Name: Paul Piferi

Hometown: Villa Park, California - Villa Park High School

Position & Size: Quarterback, 6’5”, 215 Pounds

Ranking: 3*

Offers: Cincinnati, Colorado State, Harvard, Missouri, Oregon State, Princeton, Yale, Washington State, Rutgers, Cal

Impact: Piferi is smart. Piferi is athletic. Piferi has a cannon!

Paul is not just a pocket passer as he is listed, he actually runs a low 11 for the 100 meter dash in track. Looks can be deceiving, while his stature makes him appear he is a pure pocket passer, during his career at Purdue, we will see him run quite a bit too. He runs a 4.7 forty, which is not slow.

With the Ivy League schools offering, you know that Paul is a smart kid, exactly what you want in your incoming freshman quarterback. Most quarterbacks won’t start as a freshman, and you want them to be a sponge for a year or two, soak in as much knowledge as possible and be ready to play when your number is called. Paul will do that, willingly.

Piferi has a cannon with a quick release. With the flick of the wrist the ball is 50 yards down field, with minimum effort. He is accurate on his deep passes as well. He will be the 2nd quarterback on the roster from Villa Park High School, the other being redshirt sophomore Nick Sipe, who came in with the last Hazell class.

I expect Piferi to take a redshirt year and get a bunch of reps, as he is an early enrollee and will be here all winter and spring ball, similar to Plummer last year. With the news that Elijah may get two more years instead of one, expect Paul to compete for the starting job his redshirt sophomore year. He has as every bit as talented as Plummer and Sipe.
