For the second straight season Purdue and Indiana will face off with high stakes. The winner will claim the Old Oaken Bucket and a bowl bid while the loser will stay home for the bowl season. This comes after both have had hot stretches this year. Indiana started the season 4-1, but has since lost five of its last six games. Purdue had its 0-3 star, but won five out of six before dropping its last two.
There is some good new, however. In 2002, 2011, 2012, and 2017 Purdue needed to win the Bucket in order to reach a bowl game. In all four seasons, Purdue won. Indiana, on the other hand, needed to win in 2006, 2015, 2016, and 2017 Indiana was in the same position of needing a win for a bowl game (It was already 6-5 in 2007). It went 2-2 in such games. This makes for a very interesting week.
