It’s early signing period time! This day does not get as much attention as the football early signing day, but it is still an important day no less. On Wednesday Purdue officially signs its three newest members:
Isaiah Thompson - Thompson is a 6’ guard from Zionsville that has already broken the school scoring record set by Brad Stevens. The younger brother of P.J. Thompson led Zionsville to its first sectional title in 23 years back in March and is expected to have a great senior season. I will see him several times this year as a regular writer for the Zionsville Times-Sentinel, including next Tuesday at Carmel.
Mason Gillis - The 6’6” forward from New Castle had hte Torjans ranked No. 1 for much of last season in Class 3A and led them to a regional title. They lost in the semi-state to eventual 3A champion Culver Academy. I will likely see Gillis in person on December 8 at the Southport Shootout.
Brandon Newman - The top-rated player in the class (so far), Newman has been rising high at Valparaiso. He helped the Vikings to a 20-6 record last year that included a sectional title before they lost to Elkhart Memorial in the regional in overtime. I have plans to see him when he faces off against Zionsville and Thompson at Indianapolis Manual on December 22nd.
These three may not be it for Purdue. Zeke Nnaji is still uncommitted and considering Purdue. The top 40 recruit would be coach Painter’s second highest commitment ever and is expected to announce on November 23rd. Unfortunately, that is after the early signing period, so he would not sign until the spring.
