Purdue Vs. The Bye Week: 5 Things Learned

Yes, we still learned a few things this weekend.

NCAA Football: Purdue at Nebraska Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports
  • J.J. Weaver decision getting closer

Early this summer, J.J. Weaver seemed like a lock to Purdue for the 2019 class. He stated he wanted to wait until his senior season was over to make the decision, which I respect, as he wanted to stay focus for his team. Well, as the season has progressed, we get closer and closer to his decision. Adding Weaver to this class would give us a class of defensive lineman that are ready to make an impact right away. Look for a decision to be made over the next month or so.

  • 2019 Class is now narrowed down

There aren’t many scholarships left for 2019 in West Lafayette. The focus has now gotten tighter. Weaver, Wandale Robinson, Jalen Graham, David Bell and Kyle Jornigan are all prospects that Purdue has zeroed in on. If we can land three of the five, I will consider that a success.

  • Purdue vs Illinois

Illinois picked up a good(?) win vs Rutgers. Will they be able to carry that in against us? Purdue is coming off a bye week where we have gotten healthier and had an extra week to prep for them. Look for our Boilers to be ready to play, as we try to pull to .500 after starting 0-3.

  • B1G West is Wide Open

The west is still up for grabs. There is no saying that we cannot make a run. Michigan State was beat this weekend by Northwestern. Wisconsin appears to be beatable. If Purdue can continue to produce on offense and just do enough, we could potentially make a run in the west. It will be hard with seeing Ohio State, Michigan State and Wisconsin this year.

  • More Jeff Brohm to Louisville talk

It appears as if Petrino may be on the hot seat in Louisville. The social media chatter of Coach Brohm to Louisville picked up steam this weekend. I don’t believe it will happen. He seems to be comfortable where he is currently at and enjoys Purdue. Also, his buy out is pretty high right now. He has a great 2019 class coming in, selling that he will stay put for years to come. He seems to be a man of his words.
