Boilers in the Pros: Purdue Guys in the NFL

Some are hurt, some are about to become the greatest ever at their position.

NFL: Green Bay Packers at Washington Redskins Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

It has been a harsh season for NFL guys from Purdue not named Drew Brees. While Brees will likely break a major record on Monday night, two Purdue players are already on injured reserve for the remainder of the season. That limits the number of active players out there as we seek to get another guy a Super Bowl ring.

Here is everyone that is currently on a roster that I could find:

Ja’Whaun Bentley – New England PatriotsBentley won the starting MLB job and was off to a solid start for the Patriots, but was placed on IR after week 3. He reportedly has an arm injury and will be out for at least 8 games. He did notch 8 tackles and an interception in three starts. Remember: The Patriots have never won a Super Bowl without a Purdue guy on the active roster.

Gabe HolmesArizona CardinalsHolmes has played in all four games for the Cardinals and has even started three, but has yet to catch a pass in his NFL career.

Anthony BrownDallas CowboysBrown has three starts this season and has eight tackles as part of the Cowboys’ defense.

Raheem MostertSan Francisco 49ersMostert has one carry for no yards and an 8 yard reception in the week 3 loss to Kansas City. Surprisingly they have not used him on kickoff returns this year.

Ricardo AllenAtlanta FalconsRico signed a big 3-year, $19.5 million contract before the season with almost $7.5 guaranteed. He was then lost for the season in week 3 with a torn Achilles. He finished with 14 tackles and an interception.

Kevin PamphileTennessee TitansPamphile has made a pair of starts at offensive tackle for Tennessee, but is on IR with a torn tricep.

Kawann ShortCarolina PanthersKawann has been solid up front on the defensive line with 9 tackles and 2 sacks. That’s why he is getting paid $17 million this year.

Dennis KellyTennessee TitansKelly started the season opener against Miami, but has missed the last three games due to illness.

Ryan KerriganWashington RedskinsTeams have been going away from Kerrigan, but he has been a solid starter this year for Washington. He has just two tackles and no sacks. He is in the fourth year of a 6 year, $57.5 million deal.

DeAngelo YanceyGreen Bay PackersIt was announced just today that the Packers re-signed Yancey to their practice squad.

Danny Etling - New England Patriots - Etling is on the practice squad for New England and could be their new QB in waiting.

Drew BreesNew Orleans SaintsHe is only about to become the greatest passer in NFL history faster than that Manning guy did. NBD.
