Welcome to the top 5, Purdue.

For the first time in 8 years, since February 22, 2010, Purdue is a top 5 team in college basketball’s AP Poll. Dakota Mathias, P.J. Thompson, Vince Edwards, and Isaac Haas have now taken Purdue almost as high as the Baby Boilers did, as they reached No. 3 in that February 22 poll.

Here is this week’s poll:

  1. Villanova (52) 1,611
  2. West Virginia (12) 1,559
  3. Virginia (1) 1,438
  4. Michigan State 1,390
  5. Purdue 1,225
  6. Wichita State 1,225
  7. Duke 1,222
  8. Texas Tech 1,174
  9. Oklahoma 1,152
  10. Xavier 1,050
  11. Arizona State 1,036
  12. Kansas 888
  13. Seton Hall 759
  14. Cincinnati 739
  15. Gonzaga 676
  16. TCU 621
  17. Arizona 537
  18. Miami (FL) 502
  19. Clemson 465
  20. North Carolina 423
  21. Kentucky 314
  22. Auburn 243
  23. Florida State 202
  24. Tennessee 198
  25. Creighton 160

Technically, Purdue is tied for 5th with Wichita State, but it is still impressive. We also have the infamous secret scrimmage win over West Virginia, which I really wish counted now. Imagine if Auburn and Arizona State were this highest rated last year when we crushed both teams, too.

Here is the coaches poll:

  1. Villanova (27) 770
  2. West Virginia (4) 724
  3. Virginia 693
  4. Michigan State 679

  6. Duke 584
  7. Purdue 567
  8. Texas Tech 525

  10. Xavier 505
  11. Arizona State 449
  12. Kansas 426
  13. Cincinnati 350
  14. Gonzaga 325
