College Basketball Ranking January 15: Purdue at No. 3

NCAA Basketball: Purdue at Minnesota Harrison Barden-USA TODAY Sports

Is this the year Purdue finally make sit to No. 1?

Last week Purdue was int he top 5 of the AP Poll for the first time since 2010. They were No. 3 in February of 2010, but we haven’t been No. 2 since March 2, 1988 and we have never been No. 1.

Well, we’re a few steps closer to No. 1 this week. With Michigan State and West Virginia ahead of us losing, plus Purdue winning a pair of road games, the Boilers have climbed to No. 3, their highest position since February 22, 2010. The first No. 1 ranking in school history is there for the taking if we keep winning and can get Virginia and Villanova to lose a game.

We also even have a first place vote thanks to David Cloninger of Columbia, South Carolina is the true believer in the Boilers.
