Purdue vs. Michigan: Reckoning

Can Purdue shock the world?

Jumbo Heroes (3-0) Says:

Purdue takes on Michigan tomorrow in what is the biggest game of the year, so far, for this #Brohmsquad. Can the Boilermaker football team of 2017 pull off a monumental upset similar to the upset that the 1997 squad pulled off? I honestly don’t know. This is going to be one of the best defenses Purdue will face all year. Make no mistake, Michigan is good. Their offense has struggled a bit so far this season but the defense has been crushing people. The defense almost has as money touchdowns as the offense. That’s great for the defense but not good for the offense.

Saturday at 3:00 PM I have a wedding to go to. The Purdue game starts at 4:00. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do. This is a Catholic full mass type wedding so it’s going to be at least an hour, possibly more depending on the number of guests. The question I’m presented with is do I use the two hours between the wedding and the reception to watch a half plus of football or do I avoid football and social media at all costs and just DVR the game? I’m leaning toward DVR’ing the game and staying away from all of you for the day. I want to be able to enjoy both the wedding and the game.

Last week I went against my better judgment and picked Purdue. I was rewarded. This week the opponent is much better, I don’t think anyone would debate that. Can the newly confident Boilermakers scrap and claw their way to a win? I don’t know, but what I do know is this should be one of the most exciting and important football games Purdue has played in years. Maybe the games against Oregon are the closest things I can think of in comparison. We were all still full of such hope for Hope at that time. Oh, how naive we were.

In the end I’m trying to win our picks here and so with that in mind I think I’ve got to pick Michigan. I would love to be wrong.

Kyle (2-0) Says:

Listen, I am on the Jeff Brohm bandwagon as much as anyone. Michigan struggled against an average Air Force team. It seems as if everyone is buying in as well, as most of Ross-Add is sold out. But, I do believe the train is slowed down a bit as Michigan will control the trenches and play the clock game to keep Brohm's offensive mind off the field.

Fearless Leader Travis ‘T-Mill’ Says (3-0)

Hark! Actual excitement for a home game? A near sellout? A top 10 team on upset alert because they are facing Purdue? What is this, 1999? It has been wonderful to bask in the accoledes this week from the national media giving us credit for hiring Jeff Brohm. Now we just need to come through and finish off the upset. It won't be easy. Michigan has a ton of talent, but their offense is not nearly as scary as Louisville's Because of that, I think we're in this the entire game. They have a great defense though. Can Purdue do it? You know what, why not! Blough directs a last minute drive and hits Cole Herdman for a TD with less than 30 seconds left.

Juan (2-1) Says:

I'm all aboard Brohm's Spoilermaker Special after the last 3 weeks. Buuuuuut, I just get the feeling that, as badly as I want to beat Michigan, it's just not going to happen. Michigan certainly has looked weaker with 2 unimpressive wins at home, but part of me thinks that Harbaugh knows I'm at Michigan and is purposefully trying to get my hopes up. I think Purdue will compete in this game, and it will be exciting, but Michigan's talent will probably overcome Purdue on Saturday and the Boilers fall short.

Casey (3-0) Says:

I believe in Brohm. I think he's absolutely real, buuuuuuuuut this Michigan defense scares me. Their caveat of athletes scare me. I think they'll wear us down after a close first three quarters. The Wolverines win. :(
