Purdue has a few players coming out of their redshirt year, and today’s player is one that is ready to contribute as a starter.
Simeon Smiley – Fr. (RS)
Pensacola, FL (Pensacola Catholic)
6’, 205 pounds
Safety
2017 Projection: Possible starter
When I was reading the GBI preview magazine for the season they were very high on Smiley. T.J. Jallow was brought in to play immediately at one of the safety spots, but the other is still a question. The coaches were high on his physicality, but stated that he needed experience and know how.
During spring football he played between nickel back and safety. He has good size for the position, but he will be battling Navon Mosley for the starting job alongside Jallow. Josh Okonye, the graduate transfer from Wake Forest, could also be starting at that spot, so if Smiley is indeed ready, he will have to win the spot.
