20 Days to Purdue Football: Benaiah Franklin

The redshirt freshman is in a crowded battle at receiver.

Today’s second player is one that needs to keep his head up. He is at a position that coach Brohm brought in three guys expected to play immediately, while he is coming out of his redshirt year.

Benaiah Franklin – Fr. (RS)

Marietta, GA (Wheeler HS)

6’1”, 195 pounds

Wide Receiver

2017 Projection: Possible contributor at wide receiver

Franklin redshirted last year as a true freshman, but he knew this could be his year. Purdue lost virtually all of its receivers headed into this year, so Franklin’s opportunity was to be this year before Isaac Zico, Terry Wright, and Corey Holmes were brought in as two-year stopgap solutions before Brohm can get his guys on board. That made the competition that much harder for Franklin.

Franklin was one of the earlier commits in Hazell’s final class in 2016 too, so he has been loyal for a while. He was also a baseball player in high school, so maybe if this football thing doesn’t work out mark Wasikowski can take a look.
