Sometimes players can get lost in the shuffle between coaching regimes. Hopefully that is not today’s player, who has not had much of an impact in two years and has to impress a new coaching staff.
Sawyer Dawson – So.
Lakeland, FL (Plant City HS)
6’1, 235 pounds
Linebacker
2017 Projection: Reserve at Linebacker
Dawson is entering his third year on campus and needs to become at least a reserve at linebacker with three seniors leaving after this season. He brings in good size from plant City HS in Florida near Tampa. He was a three-star recruit that had 53 tackles as a senior and 87 as a junior. At Purdue he redshirted in 2015 and saw action last year in four games. He notched one tackle in that time.
Dawson is probably not going to start this year. Purdue has four established starters at linebacker in Danny Ezechukwu, Markus Bailey, T.J. McCollum, and Ja’Whaun Bentley, but he could be a reserve and special teamer with an eye to start next year.
