Today we come to another very important player in 2017. He is one of the few players with game experience in the Big Ten along the offensive line.

Michael Mendez – So.

2017: Possible starter at guard

After redshirting in 2015 Mendez was a key piece of last season’s line. He split playing time at both guard and tackle, but this season it looks like he would be more of a guard. He is probably in line to be one of the starters, as he, Kirk Barron, and Matt McCann all return with starting experience from last season.

Mendez was a late signee in 2015 and has developed into a solid player thanks to early enrollment for spring practice. This spring was his third spring in West Lafayette, and the new staff seems to be working well with him. Since he has played both guard and tackle his versatility will be very useful.
