Since Purdue has not officially updated its roster yet with the incoming freshmen it has been a few days since we have featured a player, but let’s celebrate the independence of our country by propping up a walk-on!
Eric Swingler – Jr.
Munster, IN (Munster HS)
6’5”, 305 pounds
2017 Projection: Contributor on Offensive line
Last season Swingler was in line as a potential starter along the offensive line even though he was a walk-on. Then he tore his ACL in spring practice. He missed much of the year as a result, but otherwise he had outperformed several scholarship players. He was even projected to be the starter at right tackle before his injury.
After a year off to rehab he should be back this fall. He will at least be in the mix as a versatile lineman that could play both tackle or guard. Several players have commented on his work ethic, and that makes sense. You don’t become a starting offensive linesman in the Big Ten as a walk-on without working your ass off. At minimum, he sets the example to scholarship guys that nothing is given.
